Conventional barbs are made by tools like chisels. They often break fibrics because of their sharp and coarse edges. The FM-Barbs and HF-Barbs minimize damage to fibrics caused by the barbs themselves. The edge of a FM-Barb has been mended with Sophisticated tools. Therefore an FM-Barb looks like a 3-dimensional barb with rounded edges made up of many curves. [ See Drawing ¢Ù and ¢Ú ]
As picture ¢Ý ¢Þ tells. the barbs on each edge are designed in such a way that they get smaller towards the point of the needle. This causes less needle deflection and ensured the penetrating efficiency of each barb since the penetration force at the beginning of the penetration is reduced. Compact barbs are of mini-FM shape and are closely spaced together. They normally have barbs on only one or two edges. This spacing reduces fiber and scrim damage with sufficient needling effect. The swaged standard kick-up barb has an undercut angle of more than 28¡ãtherefore can hold the Fibers better in the barb during high speed needling, and are not easily worn out.
